As a devoted mother, wife, and corporate professional, I have personally experienced the intricate dance of balancing multiple responsibilities while striving for harmony and equilibrium. Ah, the classic tale of the corporate hustle and work-life balance struggle. With a quarter of a century (sounds way longer, right?) under my belt playing the corporate game of thrones. I got the inside scoop on the sweat and tears that come with this caffeine-fueled rollercoaster ride.
Work-life balance? Oh, I’ve danced that tango! The fast-paced world we live in is like a never-ending roller coaster ride. But then came the day when the corporate hamster wheel and the quest for this mythical “work-life balance” started to feel like juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle. In just 19 days apart, I lost two precious family members faster than than you can say “unfair! This double whammy of sadness sent me spiraling into depression and anxiety attacks that left me as useful as a chocolate teapot.
So, there I was, taking a sabbatical from the rat race and wrestling with one of my biggest foes: swallowing my pride and asking for help. I wasn’t just hunting for some backup to tackle my mind’s wild roller coaster ride, but also needed a hand juggling the circus act called family life. And then – BAM! – It hit me…I wasn’t the lone ranger after all!
There were others traversing the same treacherous terrain, lost in this same maze, looking for their own breadcrumbs of guidance and support. This “aha” moment made me wonder: “How can I be the GPS for others who are stuck on this very same wild goose chase and break the stigma around mental illness like a BOSS”!
I thought, It’s time to treat mental health conversations as casually as discussing what to binge-watch next on Netflix. Let’s make it cool to talk about feelings and struggles, because hey, we’re all a little “mentally interesting” in our own unique ways. Let’s normalize seeking help and support, because taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body.
